Ideas to Help You Write
Message for the person who is completing their self-writing journal:
Inspirational Prompts
At times, you might find it hard for your thoughts and ideas to flow. For this reason, I've added inspirational prompts for each chapter in the book. These prompts will inspire you to rediscover your story so that you may write it onto the open pages that follow without being forced to answer specific questions. Of course, this is up to you, and you don’t need to use the prompts, but they are there if you need inspiration. You might want to remove these prompts before you give the book to your child.
Your Voice
Consider recording your voice or even a video onto a USB stick that you can add to the pocket in the book. Don’t be afraid to get creative. If you want, you can read or recite your favorite recipe or poem or even sing a song you love or used to sing for your child, or you can simply record a short, kind message for him or her. I often listen to the voice messages my mom sent me via WhatsApp, so I certainly realize the deep value this will have. Click here for nifty voice note stickers.
Difficult messages
Using a pen with invisible ink is a novel idea. It allows you to convey confidential information you feel brave enough to share “undercover”. Your son or daughter can read the message with an ultraviolet light. Click here to order yours.
Conversation with your child
Think about this project as having a conversation with your child; they are not just curious about your life but long to understand the depth of your experience, which we don’t usually share in our everyday conversations. This is an opportunity to build a bridge between your hearts. Here’s your chance!
Your pen
Please ensure that you write with a quality, fine ballpoint pen so as not to smudge your writing, ensuring that your story will be kept intact for years to come.
More than one child
What if you have more than one child? There are a few options you can consider:
Option 1: Write a single book for all the children together.
Option 2: Write an individual book for each child. While this approach may be more time-consuming, it can be incredibly special.
Consider focusing on different aspects of your life for each child, rather than telling the same story in every book. Additionally, reflect on your memories of each child's unique journey, as this is what will make each book truly special, providing them with a one-of-a-kind gift from you.
Spine train your book
As ‘Memoirs from your mother’ has been thread-sewn, you will need to spine train the book before starting your memoir writing journey. This is necessary to avoid the spine from bending and the pages from popping/cracking and to allow the pages to flop open for easy writing. Click here for a short tutorial.
